London Flutes are an all-girl flute
quartet who, since their inception in 2002, have impressed
audiences and critics alike with their virtuosic performances.
Classically trained, they have recently recorded their debut
CD Hotfoot with URM
Audio, produced by Anna
Noakes. The CD contains both quartet and solo works, contrasting
old and new as they move towards a repertoire of newly commissioned
music for four flutes.
As music that equally presents four
flutes is scarce, the quartet aims to commission new works
spanning the classical, contemporary and crossover genres,
bringing the versatility of this instrument to a new audience.
The quartet's education work has also proved popular, as they
give students and teachers alike a hands-on approach to practical
music-making.
In just a short time, and in a relatively
unknown field, the musicianship of these four young women
has attracted much attention, as much for their rich and powerful
sound as for their stylish presentation.
